I have started to get my fall orders trickling in and thought I would update my update. I DID raise prices...however, I also lowered some prices too! I added a SALE!!! Collection, Which, I know...was not the point...but really some of them have been sitting around for a while and they really want homes to go to. Because zoodies are not happy sitting on hangers...they want to be worn and loved and played in. It's depressing seeing them all hanging there!

I hate raising prices...I seriously am the worst business owner ever because I constantly undermine my value because I hate charging prices I wouldn't pay myself for something. And if we are being honest, I wish I could just give them away...but then my credit card bills would start screaming at me...But, recently I was sort of busted that I was charging $4 less for my zoodies than what an American Apparel sweatshirt would cost ALONE! so basically I have not been charging anything for my time or materials...sooooo...I was politely asked to raise the prices. I told them I would do it first thing in September, so this is your last chance - Don't say I didn't warn you! If you were planning on these as Christmas gifts, better order what is in stock now! Angry Bird Custom Zoodie

I recently made these adorable angry bird zoodies as a custom request and my 7 year old became immediately jealous...make me one please mom! I do rarely get requests from him anymore...it's tempting...maybe as a "welcome to 2nd grade gift" perhaps?

I had made one of these for a little girl in our lives that looooves a certain white kitty and happened to have an extra white sweatshirt in stock- so I just put it up in the shop - it is size 12 months - would make a perfect 1 year old birthday gift for a girl who can wear a white sweatshirt (that was NEVER me!)

The Hippo Zoodie

I have this great repeat customer in Canada. She has been ever so kind to be patient while my ankle recovered. She asked if I could make a hippo zoodie and felt like it might be the perfect thing to spark my interest after a 2 month (unplanned sabbatical) - it turned out so so cute! I could see this as a great Halloween costume - even in different colors and go as Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Custom Cheetah Zoodie

Halloween is over! Bring on the rest of the holidays! I was just at Target and Christmas was happening already. It surprises me every year...i feel like an old fart every time too - "Christmas in October? Pshhhhhh" Anyway...I finished up most of the holiday orders, so i have a little time on my hands!

A looong time ago I had found some remnant cheetah fabric and thought it would be a cute idea for a zoodie - so i went home and whipped it up, but then i mussed up one of the ears a little and couldn't fix it - so it sat for years! now it has a perfect little home with my beautiful niece :) makes me so happy to have a little girl to sew for! Someone today asked me about making a custom cheetah and so my sister sent me these pics. i have been staring at them for like 10 minutes - she is just too precious!!! I am a little obsessed, but Riley really came into my life at a perfect time - that "i no longer have any babies and i need one to snuggle" type of times.

Grown Ups Love Zoodies Too!

Although they do not have a distinct spot in my new shop - I still do make the zoodies for adults too! Above are some that I managed to get pics of, but there have been more! Every year I get a handful of big kids wanting one too. Such a fun way to have an easy costume, but also functional enough to wear throughout the year (my niece has out-worn her kitty zoodie to the max). New Zoodie - Purple/Hot Pink Dino

Yay! isnt she a doll? this is a friend's daughter who is totally more into dinos than butterflies or unicorns, so i thought it would be fitting for her to model. There are these girls - i like these girls...i was sort of one...i was the type of girl who could totally keep up with the boys, but also loved dressing up...i guess not much has changed, has it :) So i have been getting more requests for girl dinos and now American Apparel is offering this wonderful purple color, so there you go. 

one of the changes i made when switching to my new store - zoodies.com - is that I took out "girls" and "boys" and changed it to "popular girl styles" and "popular boy styles" - i know it doesnt seem like a huge change, but it made me feel instantly better. I made ladybugs for little boys and pink mice for boys and dinos for girls - i think it is so silly that we make animals gender-fied. bryson LOVED the butterfly when i made it...he knew that if he wore it out it might be weird (which is sad), but he lived in it in our backyard for a week! Anyway - that is my little society/gender dilemma within zoodies. I am just all about pretend play and make believe and dressing up and you know what? childhood is such a short span - why not be a butterfly every day if you can? boy or girl...

Captain USA Zoodie

i am a little terrified of words like infringement and copyright and all those types of things...can you tell? i had a friend ask me to make a couple of these for his nephews and at first i hesitated because bryson's super-zoodie ended up taking me a long while and i still have yet to find a way to attach the cape and make it friendly on the pocket in order to sell. but to my delight Captn USA does not have a cape...and in fact these came out fairly easy! but the real deal has red and white stripes along the bottom and i havent figured a way to include that without making the pocket obsolete...any suggestions?

these are also horribly photographed also BTW...i am missing my photographer around...we have been two ships lately passing...last night we were supposed to have a little date at home together and watch a movie and i fell asleep on the couch at 7...woke up at 8...declared i am done for...and brushed my teeth, took off my shoes and collapsed in bed. i believe it was the first time ever i fell asleep before my kids. we have both been working very hard...almost non-stop. i realized last night that as much as my brain wanted to get stuff done, my body just wasn't cooperating. it couldnt even watch television. that was when i knew i needed to listen to body and give in.

anyway...dont know where that all went, but i wanted to show you all this little number and ask if you think it should go up in the shop? should i make it more "costumey" or is it nice that it is simple? i get torn a lot on that - i personally like them simple. bryson goes to a school with a uniform dress code and i feel like i could send him in this without violating anything...as long as he keeps the hood down during school. a little fun in a sea of same-ness :) but please...spill your beans...if you feel so inclined i would love to hear your thoughts!

Hey - Girls like dinos too! Like me, for instance...i recently became obsessed with them. I came home from the Santa Ana Discovery Center and i told my husband - there were dinosaurs right here in Long Beach! isnt that amazing? and he told me i just discovered what every 10 year old boy discovers every day. so i am a little late to the party, but still - i find them amazing!

fuzzy wuzzy was a bear, fuzzy wuzzy had blonde hair? how did this kid get blond hair? its wierd, but also pretty cool. i had originally bought this sweatshirt to do a custom zoodie for a friend who wanted a size 3, but i didn't realize it was lined with fur for some reason...

i thought it would make a cute bear for a cute kid who lives in a colder climate than SoCal...or maybe here too for like 3 days.

i made this pink ladybug for a special little lady and made an extra for the shop since i have had people ask me before about pink ladybugs...

i had been waiting to post this until i had a better model...because i think an angry boy in a pink ladybug is probably not the best, but i had to create the link in my shop since people had been asking and needed a placeholder...so here you go. mad boy bug..."who ya calling a lady?" i keep thinking about that movie and giggling to myself...

Limited Edition Bat Zoodie!

like, really limited. like i only made this one and will only make this one...size 18 months to size 2 (bodie usually wears a size 3, and this sweatshirt is a bit small, but this style American Apparel sweatshirt is a little more forgiving than the ones i usually work with (its the flex fleece one). 

its up in the shop and ready to ship! it would make an awfully cute halloween costume...just sayin!

Little Zoodies Out and About!

we got together with family last week to celebrate my cousin's little boy Phoenix' 2nd birthday. Such a cutie! and his big sister Grey is a doll as well! Their grandma (my Aunt...you following?) bought them zoodies for Christmas and i was so happy to see them on the little cuties! so fun to see/hear that the kids love wearing them too - i think for a parent, its just nice to not have to battle your kids to put a sweatshirt on!

Gus Gus Zoodie

i have been on a zoodie-cation...the holiday orders...the sickness that overtook my entire family since NOVEMBER...plus not sleeping...also add in our family business and working overtime to try to tie up all the accounting for 2010...who can blame me? but i have had some family/friend orders sitting here for a little over a month and decided my vacation should end...

my sister commissioned this little number...a Gus Zoodie for a friend of hers who calls their fat little baby Gus. i LOVED gus from cinderella when i was a wee one...he is just the cutest! i also LOVE the name Gus - it is a big family name in my very swedish family - Gustaf...my cousin happens to be a Gus...i totally would've named one of my boys Gus but Hubby vetoed it...1. it doesnt start with a "B" and 2. he didnt want our baby to be fat and bald forever, which i guess is what he thinks of when he hears the name Gus (which isn't true...my cousin is a cutie little surfer boy)

i debated on whether or not to put the shirt on him...i ended up deciding not to for three reasons (again with the numbering...sorry) 1. it was way easier to do a belly 2. if they really wanted a shirt they could just put it on over the sweatshirt...much easier and 3. it was way easier.


i think he turned out perty cute though!

The Butterfly Zoodie - Part Three

so...it first started like this...and then there was this....now here is the third version of the butterfly.

oh dear...that first butterfly was only done in May...why does Bryson now look 2 years older? i feel like every birthday his face transforms a little. his motivation changes too. i had to give him a quarter to pose for me this time.

anyway - this was a custom order for a friend. if people seem to like it I will eventually post it, so let me know which butterfly you like best!

(i do have to add that this version is more washing machine friendly since the wings are made of fleece and not felt...)
