Dance Class Update

JJ trying to explain the Shirley....for the millionth time

Remember when I mentioned I would be taking that dance class? well...i have been going pretty steady - only missed twice since then (and so sad to miss this last week...i came down with some 24 hour bug...yuk!) and it has been so so fun!

my cousin is in the class too - its an hour of jazz and an hour of tap. the thing is...i am HORRIBLE at tap! and jenny is amazing...(i called her a show pony last time because she is so graceful and elegant with her taps) not me so much...truth is, if she wasnt in the class i probably would have stopped after the first week because its HARD! mentally...but i am glad i didnt give up...it feels good to be challenged - mentally and physically (in an arena apart from babies) and its so rewarding when i finally get down a step...that is, when i get down a step...i haven't really nailed too many of them truth be told...but i AM improving...so hope is not lost!

So Stupid Excited!

i just ordered my tap shoes...my ADULT tap shoes...and some jazz shoes. after about 13 years I am going to start dancing again...in a class...i think the last dance class i took was probably 8 years ago and we did a dance to Britney Spears' song "Toxic" so whenever that awful song came out...that was when i last danced in a class.

the last time i took a tap class was in high school....with my swing dance partner, Jason. we took exactly one class. we were...uh...not good. i think we had visions of us breaking out on the swing floor and doing a little side by side tap number ala astair and rogers...but sadly...i am no ginger and he was no fred...

but anyway - back to the class...very exciting - my old dance captain from High School...teaches an adult jazz and tap class in Orange County and is trying to get the old dance team back together in the class...how fun is that? at least i won't be alone in making an old fool out of myself...which is why i think its been 13 years...which is silly...which is why my old mature self just ordered some shoes to start finally dancing again!!!

Legion of Extraordinary Dancers

holy crap! did you see the oscars...they stunk...i am still super super mad that Inglourious Basterds got so dumped...but that is a whole nother rant...i am not happy though....i even growled at one point...and groaned at all the politics seeping out everywhere...so annoying - this is ENTERTAINMENT people!!! but one thing made me very very happy - the dance sequence the Legion of Extraordinary Dancers performed to all the score nominees...did you see it? you will be able to here: www.thelxd.com - you can view their past performances on SYTYCD and at the TED conference...

anyway - i actually heard about this long ago. our friend Iris from college is the production director of the movie. i am so stoked for her - she has busted her booty out here in LA for almost 10 years - i am really hoping this makes it for her...so go see Moments to support Iris...k? oh and also go see it because it looks amazing! you can also view the trailer for the movie on the LXD website - www.thelxd.com


i am beyond excited for this movie...for this collaboration of dance they are doing. it is truly groundbreaking and i think it can bring more contemporary and even classical forms of dance more mainstream...perhaps even more so than SYTYCD...i am not sure the release date - so feel free to comment if you know or if you have heard anything or if you even want to rant about the sucky sucky oscars...or even if you want to tell me how wrong i am and how hurt locker totally deserved it...you could have a point, especially since i didnt even see it...:)
